(More customer reviews)This beautiful little gem from Brazil's powerhouse design duo Fratelli Campana, care of legendary Italian home-goods maker Alessi, is done a disservice by its pictures. To get a sense of how pleasing and thoughtful this object is, you really need to see and hold it. It's both simple and technically intricate. The Nuvem series plays brilliantly with a lot of appealing contrasts: as much a solid as a void, both steely and airy, softly curved and rigorously minimal. It's a great hallway table bowl (I use it to keep my keys, wallet, phone in easy reach as I'm leaving the house). Ideally, though, it should have nothing in it: it's that kind of object. The gold version looks totally decadent, in a good way. The larger sizes would be ideal for holding fruit or vegetables, given its ventilating properties. Though these are essentially wire bowls with a hefty price tag, they are so well-made and well-designed that they are totally worth the investment. They're to your average mesh bowl what a Shun knife is to a Ginsu.

"Nuvem" basket made from anodized aluminum in silver. This project has been on the drawing board in our engineering department for several years. We had quite a time finding a manufacturing process that would both preserve the exquisitely artisanal, manual, almost sketch-like flavour of the concept while at the same time allowing us to produce it at a reasonable price. In the end we figured it out, and we're happy to finally be able to present a new example of the lightness and consistency that is central to the work of Brazilian brothers. The retail prices, which are a surprise to everyone, place this line in the "A di Alessi" catalogue as a perfect exemplar of the "Super & popular".
