Calphalon Contemporary 8-Inch Bread Knife Review

(More customer reviews)A bread knife is a specialized tool -- you really can't use it for much other than cutting bread. It's tempting to purchase just any bread knife. But this is forged, rather than stamped, and the reduced flexing of the blade goes a long way towards making the slice the slice you wanted rather than what you happened to get. Functionally, this knife is beyond reproach. Even with crusty breads, the crumbs are minimized.
It does not use the traditional three-rivet handle -- the handle is molded. But it is a full tang, and there's no reason to expect any loss in longevity.
I gave this four, rather than five, stars primarily on the basis of the appearance of the blade -- but this is a matter of personal taste. Unlike knives used in the kitchen (where getting the job done is the job, and the appearance is not particularly important) a bread knife is likely to be used before guests. The utilitarian appearance of the blade is entirely appropriate to my tastes, however it may not appeal to those who expect a highly-polished appearance. Also (and this is visible from the photos) this bread knife does not have an offset handle, which may be awkward with large cutting boards.

Paula Deen 9 Inch x 5 Inch Stoneware Loaf Pan, Green Review

(More customer reviews)I've been wanting this pan for a while now, so when I found it on sale for $8.50 at a retail store I had to buy it. It's beautiful, brown on the inside and olive on the outside. I would have no reservations setting it on the table for company. For the maiden voyage I just made a loaf of cinnamon bread, and it rose and browned wonderfully. Since the description only spoke of quick breads I was hesitant, but if you're a yeast bread baker buy this pan! The only downside is that it's made in China (but most things are these days), so I hope that the quality control is strict because it is glazed and I wouldn't want any toxic colorants to be used in the glaze. (I bought this to get away from my aluminum loaf pans, so I really don't want to trade one toxin for another.)

EdgeCraft 610 Chef's Choice Premium Electric Food Slicer Review

(More customer reviews)Bought the Chefs Choice 610 food slicer, then saw the Waring FS150 (similar but a Professional model with larger motor) for $30 less an hour later. Bought that one also with intent to look up reviews online and decide at home. After reading reviews (great reviews for Chefs Choice, awful reviews for the Waring) and instruction manuals on both (still can't believe you can't run the Waring for more than 10 minutes at a time and the poor design for cleanup) decided to keep the Chefs Choice. Used it to slice roast beef, swiss cheese and baked turkey breast. Worked extremely well on all and the unit is extremely easy to use. Cleanup took about 5 minutes total. Unit is a little larger than I would have liked, but all the food slicers have similar dimensions. Well worth the extra $30.

BIA Cordon Bleu Bistro Set of 4, White Review

(More customer reviews)I wanted 20 large white plates with a rim for an upcoming party that will be served Buffet style. I bought 4 of these plates from Warehouse Deals to check them out before ordering all 20. Two of the plates arrived broken and Amazon very efficiently refunded my money. The plates are lovely, very white, a great size and a nice wide rim, however they are so heavy that they are not at all suitable for a buffet. I tried to weigh the plate on a 16 oz. food scale but it was way too heavy. These plates are heavier than Fiestaware plates and it feels as if 1 of these plates weighs the same as 2 of my every day Spode dishes.
Because these plates are so thick and because they have a rim on the bottom a stack of them would be higher than most other plates. I also discovered prices on the internet as low as Two eighty-seven per plate. The plates are FRENCH in name only, they are made in CHINA.

When it came to a new loaf pan, many of the shiny pans I considered had drawbacks: they were steel, which rusts; they had seams that were hard to clean; they were often flimsy and dented easily, and none was large enough to hold a full batch of batter. Not so with the Nordic Ware large loaf pan. This heavy-duty aluminum pan means business--the larger size is perfect for virtually every recipe, and the shiny surface produces great results and cleans up nicely. I've since added the muffin pan, rectangular baking pan, and quarter-size sheet cake pan to my collection of essential bakeware, and I remain impressed with Nordic Ware's outstanding quality and reasonable price.

(More customer reviews)This tray is wonderful, not only for a loaf of bread, but for other types of appetizers, and even decoration! (I use one to place shells that I have as decorations in one of my bathrooms). The size is just perfect: not too big, and not too small. The wood has a soft, inviting feel to it. The only drawback is that it is a really soft wood and thus quite delicate. I broke a small piece at one corner when holding it full from one side only. I was able to glue it back and since it chipped from below, it does not show much. However, the price is so affordable that I am buying another. I am becoming a fan of acacia wood!

Pan is constructed with, probably, single sheet of metal being folded to shape pan. When using, some dough seeps around edges and lodges in extremely slight opening on lower edges where metal is folded over. Very difficult cleaning and can't tell is any has gone up under the edges.

Canape Bread Molds Review

(More customer reviews)I have to admit I was a little skeptical about using these, so when I finally did, I was pleasantly surprised. The breads came out of the molds very easily, and had a very nice, even light golden color all the way around and in every nook & cranny. The bread sliced up in perfect, thin little slices for canapes, with a tight crumb and virtually no crust.
My only major complaint is with the recipe on the box. First, there's no measurement for salt (but the instructions call for it); and in the end, the dough did not completely fill the molds, in the rising or baking. Consequently, when I removed the breads from the molds, 3/4 of each loaf was perfectly shaped, then tapered down to a narrow rounded end which had not risen to fill the mold. Next time, I'm going to try my own bread recipe.
The only other problem is that while the end caps come off easily enough, they are pretty difficult to put on (round caps for star, flower, & heart-shaped molds). This also enables to the molds to roll around on the baking sheet. It would have been better if they formed the end caps in the same shapes as the molds.
Otherwise, I was very pleased with these bread molds and can see myself using them often.

RH Forschner Rosewood Bread Knife 10.25" Review

(More customer reviews)This is a great knife -- top-rated by Cooks' Illustrated magazine. But the rosewood handle is narrow and uncomfortable. (I'm a guy, but by no means have huge hands.) The fibrox version of the same knife (Forschner 40547) has a much more comfortable handle.
